Page numbering options
Start at any number
The first selected page can be numbered 1, 5, 10, or another value. Later selected pages continue sequentially.
Multiple number styles
Choose a simple number, Page 1, 1 of 12, or Page 1 of 12.
Selected page ranges
Number only the pages you need using ranges such as 2-7,10,14-16.
Six page positions
Place numbering at the top or bottom with left, center, or right alignment.
How does selected-page numbering work?
Selected pages are numbered sequentially in ascending document order. For example, if pages 3, 5, and 8 are selected and the first number is 1, those pages receive 1, 2, and 3. Pages that are not selected remain unchanged.
How does “1 of 12” calculate the total?
The total is the number of pages receiving page numbers, not necessarily the full PDF page count. This keeps the displayed sequence consistent when only a page range is numbered.
Does adding page numbers reduce PDF quality?
No page-to-image conversion is intentionally performed. The existing PDF pages stay in place and the numbering is added as PDF text using a standard embedded font.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Page Numbers tool free to use?
Yes. The current 2PDF2 Page Numbers tool can be used without a paid account.
Is my PDF uploaded to 2PDF2?
The selected PDF is processed in your browser and is not intentionally uploaded to a 2PDF2 server for page numbering.
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Choose Skip first page. Page 2 becomes the first page that receives a number.
Can numbering start at a number other than 1?
Yes. Enter the desired value in First number. For example, use 10 when the first selected page should display 10.
Can I number only specific pages?
Yes. Choose Selected pages and enter page numbers or ranges such as 3-8,11.
Can I add “Page 1 of 10”?
Yes. Choose the Page 1 of 12 style. The actual total is calculated automatically from the pages being numbered.
Can I number a password-protected PDF?
Encrypted or password-protected PDFs may not open in this tool. Unlock an authorized protected PDF first.
