How to scan documents to PDF
- On a phone, select Take photo to photograph a page, or choose Add scans / photos to use existing images.
- Add all document pages and drag them into the correct order.
- Rotate or remove individual pages when needed.
- Choose Color, Grayscale, or Black & White document mode.
- Select the page size, margins, placement, and PDF quality.
- Select Create PDF, then download the validated multi-page PDF.
Scan modes
Color scans
Best for IDs, certificates, receipts with colored markings, photographs, and documents where color information matters.
Grayscale scans
Removes color while keeping shades of gray. It can make ordinary document scans look cleaner and more consistent.
Black & white documents
Converts pixels to black or white using an adjustable threshold. It works best with dark text on a bright, evenly lit page.
Camera or existing files
Use a phone camera when supported by the browser or combine existing JPG, PNG, and WebP scans from your device.
Fit entire scan or fill the PDF page?
Fit entire scan keeps the complete image visible and may leave blank space around it. Fill page enlarges the image until the PDF page is covered, which can crop part of the image when the image and PDF page have different proportions.
What does “Match each image” do?
Match each image creates a PDF page with the same visual aspect ratio as that scan. A4 and US Letter instead place each image onto a standard paper size.
Does Scan to PDF perform OCR?
No. The current Scan to PDF tool creates image-based PDF pages. Words visible inside the scan remain part of the image and are not automatically converted into searchable or selectable text.
Tips for better document photos
Photograph the document in bright, even light, keep the camera parallel to the page, avoid shadows from your hands or phone, and make sure all four page edges are visible before taking the photo.

Is the Scan to PDF tool free to use?
Yes. The current 2PDF2 Scan to PDF tool can be used without a paid account.
Are my scanned pages uploaded to 2PDF2?
The selected images are processed in your browser and are not intentionally uploaded to a 2PDF2 server to create the PDF.
Can I use my phone camera?
Yes, when your mobile browser supports camera capture from a file input. Select Take photo and the browser can offer the rear camera.
Can I combine several scans into one PDF?
Yes. Add multiple images, drag them into the correct order, and each image becomes one page in the final PDF.
Can I rotate scanned pages?
Yes. Select one or more page cards and use Rotate left or Rotate right before creating the PDF.
Does black and white mode make the text searchable?
No. Black and white mode changes the image appearance only. OCR would be required to create searchable text from the scan.
Can I add PNG images with transparency?
Yes. The scan is rendered onto a white background before it is added to the PDF, so transparent areas become white.
