How to convert PDF to Word
- Select Choose PDF file and add one PDF.
- Choose Editable text or Preserve appearance.
- Select Convert to Word and keep the tab open while the document is processed.
- Review any conversion notes shown by the tool.
- Download the generated DOCX file and check it in Microsoft Word or another compatible editor.
Choose the right conversion method
Editable text
Extracts text from each PDF page and writes it into a Word document. This is useful when you need to edit, copy, or rewrite text after conversion.
Preserve appearance
Renders each PDF page as an image inside the DOCX. This can preserve the visual layout more closely, but the text and objects on those page images are not directly editable.
Page separation
The converter keeps PDF pages separated with Word page breaks so content from different source pages does not run together into one continuous page.
Local processing
The selected PDF is processed in your browser instead of being uploaded to a 2PDF2 server for conversion.
What works best with editable-text conversion?
Editable mode works best with PDFs that already contain real text, such as exported reports, letters, manuals, invoices, and documents created from office software. It does not perform OCR. If a PDF page is only a scanned image, there may be little or no extractable text.
Why PDF and Word can look different
PDF is designed to preserve a fixed page appearance, while Word is designed for editable and reflowable content. A browser-based converter therefore cannot guarantee that complex columns, tables, fonts, spacing, headers, forms, or positioned graphics will be reconstructed exactly as they appeared in the PDF.
When to use Preserve appearance
Use Preserve appearance when the visual page is more important than editing its contents. It can be useful for scans, forms used only for reference, certificates, image-heavy pages, or complex layouts that do not extract cleanly as text.

Is the PDF to Word tool free to use?
Yes. The current 2PDF2 PDF to Word tool can be used without a paid account.
Is my PDF uploaded to 2PDF2?
The converter processes the selected PDF in your browser and does not intentionally send that PDF to a 2PDF2 server for conversion. Normal webpage requests to third-party services may still occur; see the Privacy Policy for details.
Will the Word file be fully editable?
In Editable text mode, extracted text is editable. Exact PDF layout and complex elements may change. In Preserve appearance mode, each page is inserted as an image and is therefore not editable as normal Word text.
Can this tool convert scanned PDFs into editable Word text?
Not in the current editable mode because it does not perform OCR. Use Preserve appearance for scanned pages. A dedicated OCR tool can be used when text recognition is required.
Are tables and columns preserved?
Simple reading order may convert reasonably, but complex tables, multi-column layouts, exact spacing, and positioned elements are not guaranteed to be reconstructed accurately in Editable text mode.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
Not with this converter. Use an authorized method to remove the protection first, then select the unlocked PDF.
